Happy New Year and a warm welcome back to Term 3 2018.

I do hope you had a wonderful Christmas break.

I must start my message to you all by saying a great big thank you to our student community. Over the first two terms behaviour has really been strong. Our behaviour system shows us that positive logs are 24% up year on year. This is really fantastic and I know that this will only improve as our students continue to respect their learning and the learning of others and show acts of kindness both inside and outside of school.

Please do e-mail me with any stories of our students who go the extra mile and show real thoughtfulness so that we can celebrate with them through our ‘Heroes’ awards, assemblies and in tutor time.

The annual ‘Priory Big Read’ will be taking place this term. This was an initiative started last year to really encourage reading. All students, all staff and Academy Council members will be given a copy of a classic to read over a given period of time in Term 3 to ignite and encourage students to get lost in a book. There will be numerous literacy events built around our chosen text. There is a clear link between reading outside of school and a child’s literacy achievement. A 2012 study by the National Literacy Trust found that young people who read outside of the classroom every day were 13 times more likely to read above the expected level for their age. As I say countless times to students in assemblies and lessons, the more you read the smarter you get. Please do read some if not all the text with your child and enjoy the book. I cannot tell you the text selected this year as we want to surprise the students at the same time, but it is a superb classic and a book everyone should read at some point!

Priory is as vibrant as ever and although a short five-week term we have plenty packed into it. Alongside ‘The Big Read’ we have aspirational university trips, HPV vaccinations, the annual ski trips and the amazing school production. The school production week begins on Monday 5th February and I can say hand on heart it is already looking brilliant. I would also like to acknowledge the fabulous staff team that really do show wonderful commitment to our students so that these activities can happen.

January 24th is our target setting day where all parents and carers are invited into PCSA with their child to set annual targets and discuss their child’s performance with their tutor. Please do attend or if you are unable to do contact the school to re-arrange a mutually convenient time. We really do value our meetings with you and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in 2018. As ever my door remains open and I am happy to respond to any questions you may have or direct them to the appropriate staff member via E-mail or the school phone line is always the best form of contact. I will endeavour to respond with urgency to all messages.

Finally, should anyone be suffering as a result of over indulgence or have made New Year’s resolutions and want to get fit, The PRC Gym is open and is always happy to welcome new members and those who wish to return!

Best Wishes
